Ethan Hurst heard the screams while sitting on his surfboard in the dark ocean.
The surfer had been in the water for hours, enjoying the glassy ocean conditions late Monday, April 1, even after the sun set and darkness took over. He was having too much fun with a strong swell to get out of the water even after all his friends had gone to shore.
At first, he thought the shouting was coming from the beach, maybe someone messing around in the shallow water.
